Sounds International Choir are proud to host an evening of song in aid of the Scottish Friends of Children Concern Foundation.
The foundation is fundraising in aid of a children’s orphanage in Tanzania, Africa.
The orphanage receives no state funding and depends on external generosity.
Help us to build a bright future for each child and give them the love and support they would otherwise not have known.
THE CLIMAX OF A LIFESAVING WHIRLWIND
When East Renfrewshire’s own Phyllis Hutchison set off for Africa last autumn she expected the holiday of a lifetime, but not to have her heart captured and held for ransom.
She asked her Tanzania guide to call in at an orphanage so she could deliver some small gifts to the children, but the little Imanuel and the other 35 vulnerable orphans of Mto wa Mbu opened their hearts to her.
She found that the dedicated creators of the orphanage, Andrew Joshua and Ayubu Peter of Children Concern Foundation, needed help desperately to ensure the future of the orphanage and the wellbeing of the children it cared for.
Upon getting home Phyllis decided that she would do everything to make a difference.
She sought the help of a number of friends and like minded individuals and established a not for profit organisation Scottish Friends of Children Concern Foundation.
The group started fundraising to assist in the orphanage moving premises to an area that would not flood annually, and also contributing to the purchase of a reliable vehicle that could handle the rough rural roads around the orphanage and enable sick children to be conveyed on the two hour journey to hospital in relative comfort, rather than on the back of a motorbike taxi.
Within two months with the assistance of the tremendous support network she had built the group raised over £5000 undertaking a number of events such as bag-packing, car boot sales and bake sales in local Royal Bank of Scotland banks
Now in 2014 the fundraising continues with the local choir Sounds International agreeing to provide a fundraising concert in Eastwood Park Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday 6th May 2014. It is hoped that this event along with other planned activities such as comedy nights, sponsored bungee jumps and skydives will allow the great work carried out so far to be continued.
